The objective was to visualize the lyrics of my father's song "Yimmy." I directed the "Hallway of Memories" using AI to bridge his past with the present, testing the limits of Nov 2025 tools like Gemini and Veo using only two reference photos (one of my father and one of my grandmother).
I generated over 350 images in Gemini Nano Banana 2 to lock in the location, lighting, and stylistic tone. I focused on establishing a high-fidelity likeness for the characters before moving into the high-friction video generation phase, keeping the project a secret to surprise my father with the final creation.
The vision was instant: a hallway where frames act as portals into living memories. I introduced a flying white cloth motif to symbolize purity and act as a visual thread appearing in both the surreal hallway and real-world mountain shots tying his current reality to the past.
Production involved over 200 video generations. Success relied on manual selection and trimming clips at the exact frame before character consistency failed especially during singing and mouth movements. I integrated macro shots of hands on the guitar for cinematic texture and variety between renders.
AI couldn't animate the sequential lighting through the dome windows, so I masked a 3-stage blend (Full Sun, Half, Dark) in Premiere. I used Photoshop to manually composite specific photo frames and applied blurred edges to the hallway shots to hide inconsistent wall details and focus on the character.
To bypass safety filters that refused to generate children, I utilized a mix of other AI tools and curated stock footage to represent childhood memories without losing production momentum. This was also done to show other mothers with children and save some time having to deal with many failed renders/generations of chlidren using these AI tools.
Leveraging technology to bridge a 3-time-zone gap and save massive production costs while delivering a high-end, personal tribute. This project proves that AI is a tool to get a creative idea across efficiently when guided by a director's hand.
The primary friction was maintaining character consistency during singing and pushing past safety guardrails for childhood imagery. Managing the high volume of failed generations was a necessary part of the process to find the usable cinematic frames.
The video was a successful tribute that received high praise from the singer and led to professional inquiries from other artists. It demonstrated that AI, when combined with manual editing and compositing, is a viable solution for professional visual storytelling.
The Concept: Hallway of Memories
I recently (Nov 2025) completed a video clip as a tribute for my dad's Assyrian song, "Yimmy" ("My Mother") and used AI tools to help solve a problem and test the tools. This was a long process of pushing early-stage AI physics, character and scene consistency, and safety filters to bring his lyrics to life.
My father had just recorded an amazing song and asked me to make a video to share it online. After hearing the lyrics and story, I immediately thought of the idea of "Hallway of Memories" as a way to bring my vision to life instead of just sharing a photo with lyrics and an audio waveform animation.
I asked him to send me a photo of him and my grandmother and didn't fully share my idea to surprise him with the beautiful creation I was about to share.
Gemini Nano Banana 2: Style & Look Development
I tested out creations in Gemini Nano Banana 2 to create images first of how I envisioned the video to be along with their looks, location, and the style I was going for.
Tying Past to Present: Overlapping Elements
There were overlapping elements where I wanted to tie the current with the past such as the photo frame she gives him and how he's now in the hallway full of photo frames.
I also introduced this flying white cloth to symbolize pureness and tie the past with the present by showing the same element in the hallway where he is currently in and in shots showing memories.
Iterative Generations: Consistency & Physics
Early stages of generations to explore and test the AI tools for consistency and to get "the look".
Cultural Details & Texture
Close-ups to help show the culture and elements.
Production Hacks: Sun Rays & Compositing
There were overlapping elements where I wanted to animate the sun rays coming from the top windows but AI tools couldn't deliver so I resorted to masking techniques in Premiere Pro to get the look I wanted.
Photoshop was used to comp the photo frames in some cases to get all the proper shots how I wanted them.
Bypassing AI Safety: Child Generations
Some AI tools kept resisting to generate images/videos of children for safety purposes. I resorted to using stock footage to speed some of this process and as a solution to the issue.
Refining Motion & Detail
Physics was not ideal in certain generations. I used what worked and altered things in editing to get it to work where possible. Hallway shots featured blurred edges to hide inconsistent wall details.
Other generations to show young grandmother and exploring locations. Also most hallway shots featured blurred edges to hide inconsistent wall details and focus on the character.
"Her memory is always with us" - Final Shot
I wanted to end with a powerful shot of an empty chair where she sat to show that even though she's no longer here, her memory is always with us.
