My process involved collaborating closely with marketing teams to define campaign goals and target audiences. This included designing visually appealing layouts often in Figma, Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for rich image handling, coding responsive HTML emails, ensuring cross-client compatibility with detailed testing, managing subscriber lists, and setting up campaigns in platforms like Mailchimp. I also worked with less common sending platforms to test and deploy campaigns. A/B testing subject lines, content sections, and calls to action was often incorporated to optimize performance.
Projects ranged from weekly/monthly promotional newsletters and sales announcements to special occasion campaigns for various businesses. At Monark Group, I created numerous email templates and campaigns from scratch for a variety of their sub-companies, including health brands, pet brands, real estate, and more, focusing on sales, new products, and announcements.
I served as both the designer and front-end developer for these emails, translating marketing requirements into functional and engaging digital communications.
Ensuring consistent rendering across diverse email clients (Outlook, Gmail, mobile, etc.) is always a primary challenge, requiring careful coding and testing with tools like Litmus. Balancing visual impact (often using images as requested) with deliverability and accessibility concerns (like image blocking) required implementing best practices such as special code for MS clients and comprehensive alt text. I also provided options like text-only versions to ensure content was always accessible. Optimizing designs for quick comprehension and clear calls to action within the email format was crucial. For the VAXI email, I utilized MJML to streamline coding, enhance responsiveness, and ensure proper rendering.
Successfully delivered numerous email campaigns that supported marketing objectives by driving website traffic and sales. I maintained brand consistency across communications and ensured accessibility through proper alt text and structure, even with image-heavy designs requested by marketing. Providing options like HTML and text emails catered to diverse user preferences.
Monark Group - Email Template Innovation & Multi-Brand Consistency: Led the creation of numerous email templates and individual campaigns from the ground up for Monark Group and its diverse portfolio of sub-companies (health, pet, real estate, etc.). Employed platforms like Mailchimp and conducted thorough testing to optimize deliverability and engagement. Collaborated closely with marketing teams to ensure emails aligned with brand guidelines and marketing objectives, incorporating visually appealing designs with HTML alternatives and strategic use of alt text for accessibility in image-heavy emails.
VAXI Email - Enhanced Responsiveness with MJML Framework: For the VAXI email campaigns, I strategically implemented the MJML framework. This significantly improved the email's underlying code structure, ensuring consistent responsiveness across various email clients and devices, leading to a more seamless user experience.
CPA Canada - Accessibility & User Experience Enhancements: Beyond designing and coding the new standardized template, I specifically focused on incorporating features to enhance accessibility and user experience. This included implementing responsive columns that adapt to different screen sizes, ensuring proper color contrast for AODA compliance, and developing light and dark mode compatibility to cater to user preferences and improve readability in various environments.
